It’s time for the headline I see once a year: “Phone calls over the Internet may be finally catching on.” Yeah, right. I was really excited when this technology first debuted years ago, but I have never really used it. I just don’t know that many people out of town that I would want to take the time to call over the Internet. The obvious value for Internet phone service is in the international area; the New York Times article mentions that Internet calling accounts for 10% of international telephone traffic, with over 18 billion minutes worldwide in 2002.
