The search engine wars are always a game of one-upsmanship. Last week Yahoo! announces its new search engine, and Google just couldn’t stand being left out. So it announced that the search engine now provides access to more than six billion items. Now before you get all excited, that number isn’t just web pages; the number of web pages currently indexed by Google is 4,285,199,774. The six billion number includes images and Usenet postings from Google Groups. Still, 4.2 billion is more than any search engine — for now.
