The Novarg (or MyDoom) virus was unleashed yesterday afternoon (I received at least 20 copies of the virus at work myself). Disguised as an error message, when the attached file (usually a zip file) is launched, it sends out 100 infected e-mails in 30 seconds, to addresses located in your computer’s address book. The virus may also open a “back door” to your computer, so that hackers can take control of the PC. Virus definitions have been updated to fight this new threat — update your virus definitions now.
Update:
- Gloomy Forecast for MyDoom Fallout — “The mass-mailing MyDoom virus has become the fastest spreading program to date and the damage could continue for months or years. “
- MyDoom Sets Speed Records — at some point yesterday, the MyDoom virus accounted for 1 in every 12 e-mails sent.
