News Update -- from the Inter Alia Weblog
No news this week -- just a recap of some of the best law-related blogs I featured this past week on Inter Alia:
Aussie Blogger David Jacobson has yet another blog -- this one is called Australian Regulatory Compliance Review is aimed at "keeping Australian businesses informed about legal and regulatory impacts." Judicial Reports is a new blog published by The Institute for Judicial Studies, an organization founded in 2005 to defend judicial independence and demand judicial accountability. Here you'll find news and commentary on judges and other aspects of the judiciary. Victor Medina's interested in giving you tips for running your own small business or solo law practice. That's why he's called his blog Victor Medina's Small Business and Solo Law Practice Blog. Sheryl Schelin, who first hit the legal blogosphere with the now-retired Airport Lawyer, is now publishing the SC Bankruptcy and Consumer Law Blog. She's providing news and information on consumer law and bankruptcy issues to South Carolina residents. mediator blah...blah... is the product of Geoff Sharp, a mediator in Wellington, New Zealand. He views his blog as a "professional development experiment seeking reflective supervision from the online global mediation community."

Legally Relevant – Sites on the Internet
Immunization Action Coalition
This organization works to increase immunization rates and prevent disease by providing educational materials for health professionals and the public. There are a number of great resources on the major illnesses for which vaccines exist -- Chickenpox, Diphtheria, Hepatitis, Mumps, Measles, Polio, Rabies, among others. You'll find photos, videos, first-person accounts, and more on these diseases. The site also features a number of newsletters with semiannual information for healthcare professionals on vaccination issues.National Insurance Crime Bureau
The NICB is the leading not-for-profit dedicated exclusively to preventing, detecting, and defeating insurance fraud and vehicle theft through information analysis, investigations, training and public awareness. For the researcher, the most useful area will under the Theft and Fraud Awareness link -- available there are brochures, posters, the Up Close Newsletter, Fact Sheets, video and audio, and a database of vehicles affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. You can also order the Passenger/Commercial Information Manual for a small fee.Police Jury Association of Louisiana
The Police Jury Association was created in 1924 to improve parish government in Louisiana. The site contains a description of the parish government structure, a parish directory, Uniform Construction Code, newsletters, and more. A good place to visit if you want to learn more about the parish structure of government.Recalls.gov
I know I have mentioned this site before, but with the holidays fast approaching it deserves another mention. You can search here for recalls from one of six agencies -- the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Food & Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and US Coast Guard Boating Safety Recalls. You can also sign up to receive e-mail alerts from the CPSC, FDA, and USDA.Seak, Inc. ($$)
This company provides customized training, seminars, publications, and professional directories for expert witnesses, physicians, attorneys, independent medical examiners, and workers' compensation professionals. In addition to providing training and seminars, SEAK also offer the free National Directory of Expert Witnesses and National Directory of Independent Medical Examiners. I don't know how extensive these directories are, but they're worth checking out. You'll also find some interesting free resources, including an article called The 10 Biggest Mistakes Expert Witnesses Make During Depositions.
Finally, some fun and useful sites to start off your week:
Looking for a mailbox? Just enter a zip code at the Mailbox Locator, and get a listing (with maps) of mailboxes in that area, along with hours of pickup.
Travel back in time (to teen years, in my case) when you play the online version of Space Invaders.
Well, that’s it for Issue #251 – I hope you liked it! If you did, pass this along to anyone you think might be interested, and encourage him or her to subscribe. Also, feel free to drop me an e-mail any time if you have questions, or if you have websites or other topics you want included in a future issue.
